Ashes of War

An Author’s Artistic and Constructive Method

Weapon → Fragment → Sculpture → Memory

Developed in Odesa, Ukraine
During the ongoing Russian invasion
2022–2026

ASHES OF WAR is an author’s artistic and constructive method based on the transformation of authentic battlefield fragments into monumental sculptural form.

Created in Ukraine during the ongoing Russian invasion, the method integrates real fragments of artillery shells, mines, missiles, cartridges, and destroyed military materials into complex spatial compositions.

At the core of the method lies the principle of explosive spatial dispersion — a controlled sculptural system in which fragments appear suspended within the energy of an expanding detonation.

The method transforms the material of destruction into a visual language of memory, dignity, resistance, and human continuity.

Developed under conditions of active war and ongoing attacks against Ukrainian cities.

The Method

The ASHES OF WAR method combines monumental sculpture, artistic assemblage, structural engineering, and conceptual contemporary art into a unified visual system.

Each fragment retains its authentic form, traces of damage, oxidation, deformation, and historical origin. Rather than concealing the violence embedded within the material, the method transforms it into part of the sculptural language itself.

The spatial structure is formed through a multi-layered constructive system that includes an internal supporting framework, individual attachment mechanisms, external sculptural surfaces, and explosive compositional dispersion zones surrounding the central form.

The result is not merely a sculpture, but a material testimony of war transformed into cultural memory.

Core Principles

  • Authentic battlefield fragments
  • No symbolic imitation
  • Original forms preserved
  • Explosive spatial dispersion
  • Multi-layered constructive system
  • Material testimony of war
  • Transformation of destruction into memory

Monumental Application

The ASHES OF WAR method serves as the conceptual and constructive foundation for the monumental memorial project “UNBROKEN PEOPLE”, dedicated to the transformation of war memory into public sculptural space.
